Knowledge Exchange

The Māori Sexuality Project was developed in response to a need for information related to how we view sexuality and to gain insights into how our tupuna may have understood and expressed sexuality. In a Kaupapa Māori research project the ability to have outputs and provide resources is critical and as such members of the research team continue to work on ways by which to share the information and data gathering. In the video clips here Dr Pihama provides an overview of the intended outputs and the actual outputs that were achieved after the project budget was cut. Knowledge exchange does not only happen at the end of a project. It is not solely about dissemination of results or outcomes but is an ongoing process. The training of researchers, the community hui held throughout the project, the researchers hui, the interaction with our whānau, hapu and iwi, all these things are a part of knowledge exchange. The project team also tried to be more creative with outputs to make the information more easily and readily available, to that extent we took part in an iwi radio series with Awa FM, ran community hui to kōrero about Māori sexuality issues and developed a booklet of kupu Māori in the area of Sexual and Reproductive Health.
